The Stoics were masters at creating simple exercises to teach powerful lessons. The following exercise, which I call the bedtime reminder, is one that Epictetus and Seneca loved to practice.
When you go to bed tonight and finish the day, tell yourself: "my life is over, I have died." Why would you do this? Seneca tells us that he who goes to bed having balanced the books of life, wakes up in the morning feeling like its a bonus.
