Through my own experience, I’ve come to realize that much of the unnecessary suffering we experience comes from taking everything personally. We often think that being mistreated by other people is a personal attack. For example, getting yelled at, ghosted, disrespected or attacked verbally or physically. But it’s rarely the case.
Robert Greene, the best-selling author, urges us to take a step back and look at the big picture, and how liberated we’ll be once we do so. Most of the time, people are not at all concerned about you, they are wrapped up in their own minds, reliving their traumas from their childhood, and those bottled up emotions will manifest in their behaviour.
On that note, here are four benefits of not taking things personally.
