This week, let’s delve into the teachings of Epictetus, the slave turned Stoic philosopher. Here are five of his most powerful quotes, each offering insights into living a life of wisdom, tranquility, and resistance.

1. "We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them."

This quote highlights the foundation of Stoic belief: while we cannot control external events, we have complete control over our reactions. By focusing on our responses, we can maintain our inner peace regardless of external turmoil. This should always be the starting point and a way of grounding ourselves.
